Coates Engineering has taken on 4 apprentices Oliver Wood, Bradley Leyland, Connor Robinson and Ryan Knight in its fabrication, design and fitting departments.
Production Director Steven Longstaff explained that the company has a great belief in investing in people at school age. “We’ve started taking people on through work experience. They come in for two weeks when they are 14 or 15 and then they come and do a 13 week workshop. After their GCSE’s they do a 10 week workshop so by the time that are 16 they have 150 hours work experience.” Coates Engineering employs 100 staff and has 38 that have started as apprentices and one of their directors Brendan Kennedy began as the first apprentice in 1986.
