Congratulations to BCH’s Ryan Knight after achieving 2nd place at the World Skills UK finals for CAD Mechanical Engineering Design.
All the Apprentices/Fully skilled employee’s firstly compete in regional heats in order to secure a place in the World Skills Uk Final’s
Ryan won a gold medal back in April, at the regional heats that were held at Blackpool, competing against more than 2500 entries for Mechanical Engineering Design (Cad)
This then secured Ryan a place in the UK finals held at N.E.C Birmingham at the Skills Show where he would compete against the 10 other finalist across the UK… The skills show is where over 500 competitors compete across five inspiring sectors: Built Environment, Cultural and Creative Arts, Engineering, IT and Business Administration and Social and Professional Services. Across the weekend more than 150,000 visitors attended to watch the competitions.
Prior to the finals, SEMTA then provided the finalist with a week’s training at Motherwell college (Scotland).
Ryan had the compete for 3 days at the NEC, Using Autodesk inventor to produce 3D models and animations of given tasks.
The winners/high scorers are then selected as part of Squad UK, to compete against the rest of the world, at the world skills finals, held in Abu Dhabi in 2017.
As Ryan achieved a silver medal, he is currently ranked 2nd in the UK at advanced level for Mechanical Engineering Design (Cad).
This now gives him the chance to prove his ability in order to secure a place in squad UK.
